About Cope Jewellers Cope Jewellers have been established for over 150 years and currently have four shops in the Nottinghamshire area. Our background is in clock making and the first Cope clocks were made in Nottingham when brothers George and Francis Cope (see below) opened their factory in Holden St. in 1845. St. Peter's church clock and the old Exchange clock (now refitted in Trowell church) were made here in 1881. In 1928, Copes were chosen to make the new clock for the great dome surmounting Nottingham's new Council House. This was also made by William W. Cope who also made the Lever House clock in Blackfriars, London and the clock for Nottingham University's Trent Building around this time. William's sons, David and Richard, carried on the family tradition with David joining his father in the clock-making side of the business and Richard developing the retail side of the business. Richard's son Andrew is now Managing Director of the firm and his daughter Susan is also a director. The aim of the business today is to provide the best quality and value for money merchandise to be sold in a friendly, personal and knowledgeable way backed by an after sales service that is second to none.
